Dress code for our concerts
Classical concerts in Vienna

There isn't a stringent dress code for most of our classical concerts with the exceptions listed below. However, we kindly request that you use common sense, consider the occasion and generally dress neatly and appropriately when attending our concerts, Your thoughtful consideration in dressing for the event contributes to a more enjoyable experience for all attendees. Inappropriate attire would include swimwear, athletic wear such as cyclist shorts, and incomplete clothing, like attending without shoes, wearing flip-flops, or using undershirts as tops.
Headgear that may obstruct the view of those seated behind you must be taken off during the concert.
For safety reasons, suitcases, oversized backpacks, or large bags are not allowed at the concert halls. These items may obstruct escape routes and exits.

For the concerts hosted at St. Charles Church and St. Peter's Church, we kindly request that you bear in mind these venues are active churches. We ask you to dress in a manner that is both appropriate and respectful.

Dress code “Smart Casual”

The dress code “Smart Casual“ applies to our festive Christmas concerts and the New Year concerts as well as the regular concerts of the Salon-Orchestra Alt-Wien and the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra.

“Smart Casual” stands for casual, but also chic evening wear, as one might wear for a nice dinner.
For women, we recommend a dress, a pantsuit, or a matching combination of skirt or pants with a top; for men, we recommend long trousers, closed shoes, and a top (such as a shirt, sweater, polo, or T-shirt). A tie is not mandatory.
We kindly ask that you refrain from wearing shorts, “used-look” jeans, and overly sporty shoes.

“Semi-formal” for gala events

For gala events such as the Christmas Gala of the Salon Orchestra Alt-Wien and the New Year's Eve Gala at the Kursalon, the dress code is “semi- formal”.
We recommend a short cocktail dress or an elegant pantsuit for ladies, with an evening gown as an optional choice. For gentlemen, a dark or black suit with a (white) shirt and tie is appropriate. A tuxedo is optional.

Balls and Special Events

Special dress codes apply to balls and certain special events. You can find these details in the event description on the respective page.
